Update #1: A Most Surprising Job Opportunity
Today I got an anonymous phone call that happened to be for a job I had just applied for on Mediabistro.com (one of the best websites for potential journalism jobs, if you must know!) The interview was for an editorial assistant position with American Media, Inc. (home of Star, National Enquirer, Celebrity Living, etc., etc.), a position I had only applied for this morning! (Maybe they really liked me? One could only hope!) But the lady was a bit shady. She didn't tell me which magazine I would be interviewing and didn't seem too interested in chatting on the phone about the position. No matter, I will be on the 3rd floor of 1 Park Ave. next Tuesday at 12pm sharp.
Upon getting an offer for this job (which I might,) I face a dilemma. Do I go for an editorial assistant position at ANOTHER weekly magazine for a magazine I am not completely fond of, but would offer me more of an editorial type job that will most likely include administrative duties and eventually (hopefully), editorial type duties like writing captions or short news briefs? Or do I continue with my current researcher position at Life & Style, which, as wonderful and well paying as it is, will not help me move up among the editorial ranks? (Besides, if I talked to a top editor about moving up to an editorial position, I will have to stick it out at the same mag for another year, and I'd prefer to move somewhere else.
I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
